New research shows there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to learning.
- 80 per cent of L&D and HR professionals said that learning technology is a challenge.
- Many are choosing options outside of the usual L&D toolkit.
- 54 per cent prefer a blended approach.
The new report found that a blended learning strategy is the preferred approach for workplace development according to L&D and HR professionals.
Working with Hemsley Fraser, we surveyed 474 L&D and HR professionals and while many technologies were mentioned as exciting and relevant to respondents, the winning approach was a blended strategy – with 54 per cent recognising the need for a mix of digital and traditional learning delivery.
The aim of the survey was to discover the impact of digital on learning and development and found that at least 41 per cent of respondents plan to introduce significantly more digital learning in the next 12 months.
Lynsey Whitmarsh, Director of Innovation at Hemsley Fraser, said: “The variety of responses given indicates that there needs to be a wider interpretation of learning and what it can achieve. The findings show that learners have expectations which lie outside of what traditional LMS systems can offer”.
“Organisations must not think of L&D as a separate entity – it must fit within the flow of work and be aligned to wider business goals. Respondents reported improvements in communication, employee engagement and company culture through the use of digital learning. The blended approach should include both digital and face-to-face delivery, but more broadly organisations must create an ecosystem which supports development in an engaging, accessible and empowering way.”
The survey indicates that the correct implementation of the chosen learning delivery tool is just as important as selecting the right technique for the required skill. Learners expect to be treated as individuals and, as a result, HR and L&D professionals opt for a wide range of tools to support a variety of learning styles.
